I will post each post I am still able to access as it was in the original thread

Dominus Iesus - Creed Without filioque. « Thread Started on Apr 25, 2005, 12:37am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was just reading the document, Dominus Iesus, authored by Pope Benedict. Here is the creed that he quotes in the document:
?I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come?.
You will notice that he did not include the filioque. Very interesting.
Also, I read today that in one of his books he said that the only Ecumenical councils were the first 7. He said that the councils held by the Church since then were general local councils.
I did not read this from the prime source, but I will look for it and will post what I find.
Also, one of his roommates in his earlier life was an Ukrainian Greek Catholic.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is another quote by Pope Benedict:
?Rome must not require more of a primacy doctrine from the East than was formulated and experienced in the first millenium. In Phanar, on 25 July 1976, when Patriarch Athenegoras addressed the visiting pope as Peter?s successor, the first in honour among us, and the presider over charity, this great church leader was expressing the essential content of the declarations of the primacy of the first millennium. And Rome cannot ask for more.? (J. Ratzinger, ?Die okumenishe Situation ‑ Orthodoxic, Katholizismus und Reformation?, 1982)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is good news.
You are aware that before he became Pope Benedict XVI, Ratzinger was with the Vatican Office in charge of the Eastern Catholic Churches?

Please list the book too. Is it availble online? Thanks for all your help, Brian. You are really helping to clear up misunderstandings. I like your style.

Olivier Clement in his book "You are Peter," he states that many times Pope Benedict has stated that the only Ecumenical councils were the 7. Unfortunately I have not read this book and I do not know if he references in the book where Pope Benedict has mentioned this. Somebody on another message board mentioned this after reading the book. I hope to find this book in Franciscan's library and affirm this, but I have not yet had a chance to search. Here is the book www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565481895/qid=1114439098/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/103-7767237-6159058?v=glanc e&s=books You will notice that the book is written by an Orthodox, and the foreword is given by Avery Cardinal Dulles SJ, American theologian and great friend and ally of Pope Benedict.

This is great news! My deeply cherished wish is for a reunion between East & West...may we see it in our lifetimes!
I just hope that we Eastern Orthodox will be receptive and open to receiving the olive branch that is being extended to us...and begin a heartfelt dialogue with Pope Benedict XVI.

I am hopeful that this can soon be removed as a point of contention between the two groups. We both believe the same thing, whether the filioque is there or not. I would love to see this resolved!

This is a wonderful move! I really do love Pope Benedict. The Filioque, as far as I know is a precaution against the dead cult of Aryanism. As Aryanism is no more (or at least is unnoticed) there is no need for the Filioque. There was a compromise developed, but it didn't catch on. "And the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life who proceeds from the Father through the Son" I wonder how long it would take for the Anglicans to finally drop it as many parishes seem quite keen on it in my area. My parish even said it at the Easter service! (I meant to get back to the vicar about that but never did). I believe in one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. I also believe that the church will become truely Catholic once more, this would be the ultimate form of casting out the heretical churches. .
